VIDA Medical
Turning Manufacturing Challenges Into Practical Solutions
VIDA Medical brings deep medical device manufacturing and operations experience to help companies turn complex technical challenges into practical solutions — from raw materials through manufacturing and distribution.
Manufacturing is one of the most dynamic, expensive, and difficult parts of the product lifecycle. VIDA Medical was established to help companies solve these problems at every stage — process improvement, product development, manufacturing readiness, operational execution, or growth.
We work alongside your team as an extension of your organization, bringing experienced manufacturing leadership and technical expertise without the cost, commitment and distraction of building or expanding an entire internal team. Available when you need us, scaled back when you don't.
We support a broad range of clients, from early-stage startups preparing for their first product launch to established OEMs addressing complex manufacturing and operational challenges.
VIDA Medical maintains dedicated medical device laboratory space to support product development, process development, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing activities. While we do not operate a cleanroom or provide direct cleanroom manufacturing services, we can help develop the processes, equipment, documentation, and manufacturing strategy required for cleanroom production and work with qualified cleanroom partners when needed.
One team. One focus. Solving problems.
James Abrams - Founder
20+ Years in Medical Device Development and Manufacturing

James Abrams is a medical device operations executive with over 20 years of experience taking complex minimally invasive and catheter-based technologies from development through commercialization. He advanced from intern to full-time engineer at VNUS Medical before finishing his degree, and later from Venclose's second employee to Vice President of Manufacturing Operations through four promotions in five years.
He is an engineer at heart, personally designing fixtures and equipment such as a modified coil winder that outperformed a $150K contracted system, and leading the cross-functional effort that solved a ~50% manufacturing yield problem at Miramar Labs that had persisted for years.
At Venclose, James built the manufacturing and operations function from the ground up, taking the product through 510(k), commercial ramp-up, and an offshore production move without a single line-down situation or manufacturing-related complaint, earning the company's "Exceptional Leadership Establishing World-Class Manufacturing" award. Now at Vantis Vascular, he leads manufacturing strategy for a dual-catheter system requiring 0.0003" tolerances, and selected and manages its coating, sterilization, and distribution partners.
James founded VIDA Medical to bring that same hands-on, high-stakes execution to medical device companies navigating manufacturing problems, operations build-out, or growth. Though he leads the practice, it isn't built around him alone — VIDA Medical draws on a network of industry professionals who share his pace, problem-solving approach, and ability to work across functional and business lines, so clients get the right expertise for each engagement rather than just one person's bandwidth.
02
Communication Is Key
We know how to work efficiently with engineers, operators, quality teams, executives, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to keep everyone aligned.
01
Real-World, Hands-On Experience
We don't just advise—we have built medical devices and medical device companies. Our experience spans manual assembly on the R&D bench, through process documentation and control during scale-up, to high-volume production.
03
Understanding Partnerships
Manufacturing rarely happens in one location or within one team. We understand how to work across suppliers, contract manufacturers, internal teams, and other partners to keep cost, quality, schedule, and risk on track.
04
Solving Problems Is at Our Core
We thrive on manufacturing challenges most teams find overwhelming.
Understand the problem. Define the options. Build the solution.
05
Technical Expertise
Our experience spans product development, manufacturing engineering, operations, supply chain, contract manufacturing, quality, and commercialization. We understand the technical details while keeping sight of the business objective.

Phase-Based Consulting
Some projects require ongoing manufacturing ownership rather than a single deliverable.
VIDA Medical can partner with your team through R&D, product development, design transfer, manufacturing scale-up, commercialization, and production ramp-up.
We become an extension of your team, providing manufacturing leadership and technical support throughout the phase while working closely with engineering, quality, suppliers, contract manufacturers, and leadership.
The goal is simple: bring manufacturing expertise in early, catch issues before they become expensive, and help move the product successfully into production.
